Attention to details
Typically, digital photographs taken with low cost equipment and no auxiliary light result in images that do not show the room or home in an eye-catching way. To quickly sell a home to prospective buyers, the photographs must be clear, accurate, and attractive. There are many things that contribute to a successful image of a home. We pay attention to the details that together add up to the right kinds of images to attract buyers. If you study images, you can spot these details:
- Straight lines should always be straight. Walls, mirrors, and cabinets can "look funny" if they are not straight. The camera position affects these as well as the quality of the camera and lens system
- Colors should always be true to the actual scene. Professional photography deals with the colors of light to make sure, as much as possible, that the walls and objects are really the colors we see. Color is a difficult problem; light coming from different sources adds color casts that can be conflicting (sunlight, lamp bulbs, clouds, flourescent bulbs, etc.) but if the job is done well the eye is pleased with the image.
- Stray objects in the home should be removed for photography. When we are photographing we look to see if there is a cat bowl in the floor, or a brush on the cabinet, or a business card on the counter and within reason we will move it temporarily to allow for a clean photograph.
- Mirrors are photographed to make sure we don't show up in a reflection.
